Life is what happens away from computer screens...

I originally started this blog to keep myself accountable to my writing on a daily basis.  So far, as far as I can tell, I have not managed that yet. Just as I get better with more updates and longer blog entries I fall off of the Writing Wagon because life happens.

Everything that has happened since my last update I have blogged about in my head, and as soon as we can download stuff from our brains directly to our computers, I'll let you know all about it.  But for now, I can't really remember what I was going to tell you, dear Internet.

I guess you'll just have to trust me when I say stuff happened.  Lots of interesting, fascinating, mildly exciting stuff.  But it has all left me because I didn't commit it to this blog in time.  I'm the self-appointed Queen of I'll Blog About That After My Nap!  Not even joking.

Fear not, darling reader, for I do have a tale to share with you; a tale of appreciation.  It begins with me waiting for paperwork to arrive from Florida via UPS (not one envelope, but two!), but the papers never get to me.  I forgot that my house was being painted which means the address numbers had been removed, so my house had no address, essentially.  The driver got confused and delivered my papers to my next door neighbors.  Long story short: I was not a happy camper.

I had a deadline to meet with that paperwork, so I might have expressed my discontent to Matt, who conveniently works for UPS, not thinking that he would say something to the driver.

A few days later I get home from town and my mom mentions that a UPS driver stopped by and apologized for the mistake!  I didn't expect that.  I was floored.  I've been in and out of the customer service industry for a decade or so and I pay attention when I see amazing service.  I also believe that amazing service should be rewarded.

This coincided with all the pear canning.  And a light bulb went off!  I went to UPS and met the driver in person to thank him for what he did.  I also gave him one of the first jars of canned pears because I'm awesome like that.  He appreciated it and I guaranteed that he'll never mistake my address again.  :-)

Just remember, kiddos, that an act of kindness doesn't have to be random.

  1. I POSTED A COMMENT. It's not my fault if it didn't go through! But R.B. is pretty awesome.
